Manga manhole covers
In many parts of Japan, manhole covers adorned with cartoon or movie characters have become tourist attractions.
These appeared in a shopping street in Sendagaya, Shibuya ward, Tokyo in the early spring of 2020. Sendagaya is a mecca for shogi (Japanese chess) fans, as it is home to the Shogi Hall, where some of Japan's top tournaments are held, and Hatomori Hachiman Shrine, which enshrines shogi pieces. These manhole covers were installed by the Shibuya Waterworks Bureau and feature characters from the popular manga and anime "March Comes In Like a Lion," which depicts a high school student who is also a professional shogi player.
Cute manhole covers are just one example of the countless cute objects that one encounters daily in Japan.
